Using the Cost Analysis feature in On Demand License Management

Thanks for your interest in Quest On Demand, your go-to SAS dashboard for tackling Microsoft challenges in a hybrid world. I'm Shawny Reiner, Senior Strategic Systems Consultant at Quest. And today, I'm going to take you on a short tour of the On Demand License Management cost analysis feature. If you've taken any of the other tours, you know that ODLM provides at-a-glance, in-depth usage and cost analysis of your Office 365 licensing. With ODLM, it's easy to understand who is or isn't using provided licenses, as well as what is and is not provisioned in the tenant. Before viewing this tour, a good video to view first is the license management dashboard tour, because it provides a quick, high-level view of each of the specific functional aspects of On Demand license management summary features. It's important to note that out of the box, ODLM uses default license rates to estimate your cost. But as with On the Dashboard, the rates can be customized to reflect your organization. The Total Cost widget is a straightforward display of total purchased licenses, divided between cost of assigned licenses and the costs of unassigned licenses. And hovering over the sections of the pie chart provides a percentage associated with these two calculations. Cost by license type further examines the breakdown between assigned versus unassigned licenses within each license type. In this tenant, there are three license types, and it's readily apparent which ones are underutilized. The cost by department widget is a breakdown of user-assigned licenses per department. The graph visually charts the total number of user license assignments per department in a descending order. And hovering over any of the bars provides the cost of those assigned licenses. ODLM's cost analysis feature readily uncovers license costs and loss and allows examination from a variety of facets, such as by department. Therefore, with ODLM, you can make intelligent, educated adjustments to license purchases and assignments to efficiently manage licensing costs. And all of this directly impacts cost management.
